From now on, the Assamese government will use its numerous institutions to administer all recruitment exams for different departments. Assam Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna made the announcement on Tuesday.
The recent controversy surrounding the leak of the Assam Police sub-inspector recruitment exam question paper prompted the decision.
Earlier, on the instructions of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the five public university vice chancellors were met by the chief secretary, along with the registrars as well as controller of examinations of the varsities. The new decision to conduct the recruitment test by the universities was adopted in that meeting.
The chief secretary said that Gauhati University, Tezpur University, Assam University, Dibrugarh University, and Cotton University will be the five universities through which the state government will administer all government job recruitment exams.
As per an official notification issued in this connection
Police, home guards, prisons, P&RD, and labor departments will all be recruiting through tests held at Dibrugarh University.
Gauhati University will conduct recruitment test for Industries & Commerce, Skill Development, Transport, Excise, Forest & Environment Departments.
Assam University will conduct recruitment test for Social Welfare and Soil Conservation Departments.
Tezpur University will conduct recruitment test for Irrigation Department.
Additionally, the State Cabinet meeting on October 7 resolved that henceforth no private parties will be involved in conducting tests for any government services related recruitment examinations. It was also resolved that either the department itself will conduct the hiring exam; if not, it will be carried out by the state or central universities in Assam.
